Three ink pieces of Valley Oaks (Quercus lobata).
Native to Souther California, these oaks twist and turn every which way to catch some sun. I've always wanted to sit down and draw them and a commission from my cousin provided the perfect opportunity.
Made with dip pens, these pieces were an excellent way to experiment with line weight. The tooth of the paper combined with the thickness of the nibs resulted in some stunning texture that worked really well in the tree bark.
